A Piess Association telegram from London slates that Second Lieutenant V. G. Russell, of tlio Flying Corps, formerly of tho Zealand Mounted Rifles, has been killed whilst flying. His brother, L. D. Russell, who was educated at AVanganui School, was killed whist npronlaniug in September, 1916. His surviving -brother, Lieutenant IJ. B. Russell, of the. Flying Corps, is a. prisoner in Germany.

Sir Ernest Shaokloton, after a successful lecturing tour in the South Island on behalf of the Red Gross and tho fund! in aid of the widow of the kto Captain Mackintosh, has proceeded north 1o fulfil some further engagements. He is -expected back in Wellington about the middle of next weelt, and will deliver another lecture in this city.

Edward Faydn, New Zealand Garrison Artillery, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces' Long Service Medal for 21Jyears, eervice. Mr. John Hislop has been appointed a member of the Taraiiaki Laud Board as from April 22 next. Mr. 15. W. Cave has been appointed clerk of tho Magistrate's Court at Palinerston North.

An interesting ceremony took placo in the Stratford Town Hall on Wednesday night, wheal Colonel , Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence, presented Corporal C. E. Barker, of Cardiff, with a Distinguished Conduct Medal wrdistin"uished conduct on August 18, 1910, at Shunik Bair, Gallipoli. In face of fire and great difficulties ho rendered great sorvice in carrying munitions and water to the firing line and acting as guide to the reinforcemonts, and on his way back carrying wounded soldiers. At the conclusion of a most congratulatory address by the Minister, rousing cheers were given for the recipient. Major E. P. Cos, of Hawera, was also presented with a twelve years' Service Medal. Colonel Allen mentioned that Major Cox had boon promoted on the battlefield of Gallipoli, and had been iwico mentioned in dispatches. He had returned home wounded.
