CITY CRICKET
BRILLIANT CENTURY BY TUCKWELL BATSMEN'S DAY OUT Saturday's cricket at the Basin Reserve provided some good batting. Tuckwell, playing for North, rattled lip one of the fastest ceuturies ever made in Wellington, and his batting was so good all round that some of those on the ground consider it the beet hundred they had ever witnessed. One estimate of the performance put the time down as 45 minutes. Robinson once left the threefigure mark behind in a shade over forty minutes. Another indication of the speed of Tuckwell's scoring lies in the fact that he reached the century when the total for the side was 130. Another fine batting performance was put ■up by C. G. Wilson. The veteran can give every man in Wellington points in the highly usefuj art of running between wickets, and his batting is always of a quality that makes it attractive. J. Hutchings played a (rood innings for Bast, and sjtved his side from what looked like an imminent "rot." Dwyer played an excellent innings for University. He is easily the best bat of the side. Robinson, the fast bowler, was in eood form with the ball, and in the early portion of Institute's second innings had t.wo wickets to his. credit for no runs. In Institute's first venture he took five wickets for 29 runs, and, with Hiddleston routed the team for 60.
Old Boys batted first and put up 257 runs, the biegest scores being made by Ronaldson (92). Baker (S6), and Lambert (25). Hutt then started their innings, but only had seven wirkets taken when stumps were drawn. They put ut> 102, the biggest fores bein? made by A'ldersley (25) and Hnehes (18). Byes amounted to 34.
