Tho damage at Auckland in the shipping world is more fully explained in Thursday's "Herald." Work and shipping on the waterfront was ■ deranged, and cargo operations were only carried out with difficulty, and were in some cases stopped altogether by the rain. The Northern Company's time-tablo was completely disorganised, and many advertised trips had to be abandoned. The Bmall srading vessels suffered to a great extent through the wind, the sea, rising eo quickly. Messrs. J. J. Craig, Ltd., wero the principal sufferers, loosing two vessels a/nd having another uadly damaged. The scow Eimu and tho cutter Slag, reported to be ashore at Hook's . Hay, Waiheka, have become total wrecks, j and wer-o reported as breaking up, leaving 1 nothing to be salvaged, Both vessels having '. completed loading shingle at the beach, were ready to haul off when tho sea 1 came in on them before they could get ] clear. Their last combined valuation was £1000, and they were not covered by insurance. The damaged Yc-ssel .was the Ida, which had her bowsprit carried away and her stem damaged, causing her to 1 leak badly, the damages being caused J by tho • punt Buster U, which dragged < its &nohor«. Another of the Craig yes- J sele had a narrow escape frojn being 1 broken up against the King's 'Wharf. Tho e schooner Clio also dragged her anchors, i and was only saved from smashing on s tho wharf by Betting foul of the moorings of a dredge. The Harbour Board's tug was kept busy all day tewing vessels in distress, and those which had brokon , adrift into safoty. Several vessels in ' tau port were . damaged more or Icsb i , severely. Among the small" boats tho j, damage was considerable, being estimated | '„ at £1000.
