AMALGAMATED. SOCIETY OF RAILWAY SERVANTS
The Executive Council of the -Amalgamated Society of Eailway Servants, which has been sitting in Wellington during the past, week, has - concluded its sittingl Tho annual report presented by the general secretary (Mr. .Hack) showed_ that the membership I*6 steadily increasing, .the total membership now being 8544. The balance-sheet presented, shows that, the total assets !of the society amount to £8192 18s. 3d., exolusivo of funds held by branches, being an increase of £672 9s. 7d. on the year's working. Two thousand five hundred members have enlisted in tlie various branches of the Dominion's military forces. The society has invested in war bonds aiul certificates the sum of £1356 12s, '
Tho Executive Council unanimously endorsed the action of Mr. Mack in accenting the position on the Wellington Third Military Service Board. Ar-
rangements were, made for tho' president of the society, Mr. B. Hampton, to be in attendance at the head office in Wellington until such time as Mr. Mack is able to resume his ordinary duties. On Saturday afternoon, February 10, the cxcciitive interviewed the ActingPrime Minister and the. Minister 'of Railways, and discussed with them the f]uestion of national organisation during the war period. The deputation particularly, asked that.production of food commodities should be made compulsory oil an organised basis, also complete elimination of all war profits. Sir James Allen promised full consideration to the representations made.
