SERIOUS CHARGE AGAINST AN OFFICER
ALLEGATIONS INVOLVING THOUSANDS. (Rcc. Janury 31, 9.35 p.m.) London, January 31. liieut. Howell Price has been, remanded, without bail, on. six further charges of uttering forged bills of exchange. The amount involved approximates £60,000.— Press Association. '. Howell-Prico ■ was- remanded on January 23 on a charge of knowingly claiming the pay of Lieut. Dowries during November, 1915, while he'was lieu-tenant-adjutant of the Light Horse. The police prosecutor stated ho understood accused was lieutenant-adjutant of the 9th Light Horso from Apr.il to July, 1915, and he was alleged to have submitted claims for pay for the whole unit from the time of demobilisation till the following Nevoinbor. Ho drew money which allegedly approximated to £50,000. • He left the deferico force in September last medically unfit. There was a. suggestion thab he had not disposed of all tho money ho obr tained. Counsel for the defence asked for and obtained bail .in the amount of £3000. The accused was shortly after re-arrest-ed on a charge of forging and uttering iwo cheques for £1000 each.
