GOVERNMENT'S SCHEME
loiportant proposals for industrial organisation, as a phase of New Zealand's war effort, have been considered by the Government lately. The outcome will be the appointment of an Industrial Efficiency Board, which will advise the Government regarding measures that may be necessary in order to meet labour shortages caused by the war. This board win be composed of four business men of wide experience- and it will act in conjunction with local committees, which will be established in various centres.' The committees will be representative of all sections of the community, and they will report to tlie board regarding shortages of kbour.
The sclieme is elastic in its details, and may be extended to meet conditions as they arise. The shortage of labour in various essential branches of industry is bound to become increasingly acute during the period of the war. One of the tasks of the board will bo to advise the Government as to what use can be made of balloted men who are medically unfit for active service.
