'A heavy rainstorm at Tokomaru Bay I . caused heavy "floods. ■ A young man i '■'■■named Lewis,-aged twenty-one years, '< a carpenter, went out at 5 o'clock to : ""'look at the flood; A bank gave way land he wa,s drowned. . , ', 'A child named Hanlon, eighteen months old, also was drowned. Tho father had handed the child to its mother whilst they were escaping from '■- -their .house, but the mother tripped and fell, and the child was gashed away. A number of small bridges have been •washed away and stock drowned. It is reported that.lo inches,of rain fell inland. .
