SHELLS FOR THE AMERICAN NAVY

TO BE MADE IN BRITAIN. Washington, January 18. The Secretary of the Navy (Mr. Daniels) has given contracts to Hadfieids, Ltd., Sheffield, England, for shells for the United States Navy to the value of iover three million dollars (£600,000). American tenders were over two hundred dollars (£4O) per shell in excess of the tender of the British firm, and the period of delivery was double. —Reuter.
