MASTERTON NOTES
A number of bush and log fires havo been raging on tho hills to the-west of Masterton during the last few days. So far this summer not a solitary caso of infantile* paralysis has been reported in Masterton. Tha town lias been particularly free from infectious diseases.
Of tho 177 men drawn in the ballot as tho Wairarapa quota of the Tweutysixtli Reinforcements, it is not expected that nioro than forty or fifty will bo available to proceed to camp when required. In spite of tho war, tho number of births registered in Masterton is steadily increasing. In 191G Hie number of registrations was 273, compared with MO in 1911.
There were only forty applicants for work at the Masterton Labour Office during the year 1916, compared with lot) in 1911. '
A Friendly Society dispensary is being opened in Masterton this week.
The Masterton auctioneers arc holding their first sales in the new saleyards to tho east of Uio town on Wednesday.
During the past three years motorcars of an estimated valuo of £140,100 have been registered in tho Masterton Borough and County. Tho . number registered in the countv increased from 45 in 19U to 92 in 1916
