IN THE LAND OF STRIKES
OVER 1,000,000 DAYS LOST LAST MTSAB. During the year 1916 there were no fewer than 310 industrial dislocations throughout Now South Wales, or one for every week day of tlio year. In these dislocations 130,000 workers were involved, tlie loss of time totalling 1,102,500 working days. These figures are given in a review of tho year's operations made available by tho Minister for Labour and ludustry (Mr. Beeby). in another portion of the report it is stated that arbitration for the same period cost the State £53,259. The coal strike, ivEicb. lasted right through Novemßor and well into December, was, of course primarily responsible for the large number of days lost. Something like. men were affected, and, wniiß tne amount lost in wages is not recorded, it must have been considerable.
