METAL WORKERS' AWARD
UNION SUBMITS NEW DEMANDS,
Claims ior a now award havo been tiled by tho Wellington Metal Workers 1 Assistants' Union. The new demands compare with tlio present conditions (as given in parentheses) as follow:— Uours, 44 per woek (47); wages. Is. Gd. per hour (Is. 2d. and Is. 3d. plus a 10 per cent, war bonus recently granted) ; boys and youths,. from 10s. per week to £1 15s. as at present; overtime), 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. doublo time, Ip.m. to 10 p.m. time and a. half, after 10 p.m. doublo timo (time and a quarter for first two hours and time and a half thereafter) : Sundays and holidays, doublo timo. In placo of tlio suburban work clause is ono prescribing payment of travelling time for any distance beyond one mile and a half from tho employer's place of business. Another new clause provides that any worker required to work in a temperature exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheitshall bo at doublo tho ordinary rates. Preference, country work, under-rate workers, and dirt money are other matters dealt with.
The dispute will be heard by the Conciliation Council on January 29. Assessors nominated by fcho union are: Messrs. J. Ash, W. Darley,. and A. Murray.
