CENSORSHIP TIGHTENING. A Gazette Extraordinary, published last evening, issues tho following prohibition with regard to shipping news: 1: No person shall, without the writ- v ten consent of a military authority, publish or cause or permit to be published in a newspaper any statement or indication as to tho movements, whereabouts, cargo, or employment of any sjiip engaged or about to be engaged in any voyago the course of which lies wholly or partially to the north of the equator, or any. information as to any such ship which if known to the enemy might he a source of danger to that ship or might otherwise bo of use to tho enemy. . . !>. No person shall, except an tho course of his lawful business nv relation to any such ship as aforesaid,.send or cause to bo sent out of New Zealand bv means of any telegram, letter, or otherwise howsoever any such statement, indication, or information as aforesaid with respect to that snip. 3 Nothing in these regulations shall make it an offence to publish in Ivew Zealand— (a) Any matter contained in a New Zealand by telegram from a Kingdom after December 23, 1916, and received in New Zealand prior to the publication there of such matter; or (5} Any matter transmitted to New Zea'lanr by telegram from a recognised Press agency in the United Kingdom, arid passed for publication an a newspaper hy the censors of telegraphic messages; or (c) Any information as to shipping casualties.
