MORE APPEALS

THE CITY SESSION ENDED Tho Military Service Board concluded its Wellington- session yosterday. Tho Board consists of Messrs. D. G. A. Cooper,'S.M., D. M'Laren (Wellington), and W. Perry (Masterton). Respecting Martin Carson, a marine fireman, an appeal had been lodged by the secretary of tho Seamen's "Union, but the secretary camo forward and said that Carson had been in Wellington, and had nof bothered to see him in tho matter.

Tho appeal was dismissed. Ernest Tempest, carpenter, Petonc, appealed, saying he had previously been rejected for deafness. Tho appeal was dismissed, and the matter left to the Medical Board.

Lawrence David O'Sullivan, blacksmith, Lower Butt, w.ho had asked for exemption on the ground of hardship, withdrew his appeal. s Ralph James Williams, storeman, Wellington, stated unduo hardship to be tho cround of his appeal. Appellant safd ho was the support of an aged mother and two sisters, and both sisters were ill.

The Board was of the opinion that the appeal should be allowed; tliat the ground of hardship had been fully substantiated.

Harry Murdoch M'Kenzie, coachsmith, appealed on the ground of undue hardship. .He said he was twenty years of age,- and wished to finish his apprenticeship (expiring in May) at his trade.

The Board dismissed the appeal as this class of caso was to be provided for by Parliament.

Sidney George Tandy, a coaehpainter, Wellington, who had applied for .an extension of time, withdrew his appeal.

Wybert Miirmion Moore, an officer in the Pensions Department, advanced the ground of unduo hardship as a reason for exemption. He Said he was twenty-nine years of age, and single, but had certain obligations to relatives.

The board assured appellant that cases of his kind were being nrovided for. and the appeal was dismissed. Norman Humphrey Winstanley, farrier, Wellington, claimed that ho was under military age. He produced a certified copy of his birth certificate, which showed that he was born c-n February 28. 1898. The, appeal was allowed. 'Aloiuso Kovalevske, an engineer's apprentice, appealed on three crounds —public interest, undue hardship, and religious objections. However, .when he camo to-be questioned, it was discovered that ho claimed to be only seventeen years of age.
