SELINSKY-AMADIO CONCERT
The Seliusky-Amadio Company gave its second concert in the Wellington c Town Hall, last evening, and again this 0 fino combination of artists gave keen delight to tlio audience. Air. Max £ Solinsky is a violinist whoso qualities 1,, improve* upon increased acquaintance. Ho lias no affectations of stylo or nmn■d Jicr, and an easy mastery of technicpio is enables him to secure his results with<l out apparent effort. His tono is mare yellously puro and sweofc, his control ' r is almost perfect, and liis treatment >" is always sympathetic and full of understanding. His most important item j last night was tho Concerto in D ._ (Tschaikowsky), which lie played <leL hght'fully, a recall being demanded cii- \ thusiastically. Caprice, "Love's Joy" r, (ICreislcr) was another highly enjoyable r- number. Mr. Selinsky's other proit grammo numhors were: "Variations— y Corelli" (Tartini Kreisler), "Sicilienno" & (Bach-A'uer), and "Caprice Viennois" s (Kroisler;. Mr. John Amadio, probably l, tho most talented flautist who has ever l t ' visited Wellington, gave as his first . contribution to the programme "Cap- \[ riccioso Italienne, Op. 105" (Briccialdi;, [I a composition that gave.ivido scope for 0 his skill. He triumphed at every point. Hie command of tone, his facility of execution, and his delicacy of touch made his performance a truly great a one, and the impression was confirmed ] c by his subsequent items, which in,r eluded "Lullaoy" (Brahms), "The Buti_ terfiy" (Kohler), and "Fantasia lirili- lianto" (Tcrschak). Miss Elsy Treweck, a the talented Australian soprano, gave is the Had Scene from "Lucia di Lammcrt moor" (Donizetti), with a flute accoina paniment by Mr. Amadio. The number | ■■ was altogetner charming, the vocalist's 11 sweet, smooth notes blending delight-- » fully with tlio accompaniment, iliss t Trewee-k snng also "Roses o* Memory" 3 (Foster) and "Sing, Joyous Bird" 1 . (Montague Philips). The pianist of the * company, Miss Jessie Masson, played ' Chopin's Polonaise in E Flat, with a rare skill, in addition to a Nocturne 11 and a Novelette by Schumann. Her >f work as accompanist was thoroughly ;. satisfactory, 'ilie company will give a its third concert this evening, when Mr. Selinsky will play tho Concerto in j> D Minor (Wieniawski), • "Nocturne, ' Op. 72" (Chopin-Auer), and "Faust 3 Fantasie" (Gounod-Wieniawski). Mr. Amadio's numbers will include (by request) thd Grande ITantasie "Wind in the Trees" (Briccialdi). /
