WAR LOAN CERTIFICATES
' SALES APPROACHING £1,000,000. The latest telegraphed figures show that the sale of War Certificates continues to be steady. The total up to September 23 amounts to £924,928 165., • and it'seems safe to say that themillion sterling which it was hoped would be, raised tuider this scheme will ,'as- ' suredly be exceeded before the close of the year. During the period September 16 to 23 the sales amounted to over £26,000, Wellington, as usual, occupying the leading place in. a most decided . manner. From the table below it will bp seen that the total sales ,in the Wellington district have now reached over £220,000, Christcfourch £132,000, and Auckland and Dunedin £113,000 each. When some of the schemes which are now under way for collection by local bodies, societies and private firms mature, no doubt the other three centres will approach more nearly the total for the capital city. Everyone should remember that as much as possible is needed, and that every sixteen shillings invested helps New Zealand to keep her soldiers in the best of condition to meet the enemy.
