Apparently anticipating an early decision, on the conscription question, a rush of volunteers has commenced, reminiscent of the early days of the war. Melbourne, August 28. The Federal Labour Caucus is deliberating the conscription issue. Mr. W. M/ Hughes (the Prime Minister) has stated that they hoped to arrive at a decision to-night, hut. he cannot say definitely. CIFT AEROPLANES FROM NEW SOUTH WALES. .(Rec. August 28, 9.40 p.m.) Sydney, August 28. The State Governor (Sir Gerald Strickland) has opened the Aviation School at Clarendon. Mr. Holinan (the State Premier) announced during tho proceedings that the Government had decided to present to Great Britain one aeroplane for' every one presented by the citizens. Six had already been promised privately, and Britain was thus assured of twelve.

August 28, 10.5 a p.m.) ■ Sydney, August 28. , Charles Scoringe, a New Zealander, who was charged with attempting to shoot a polios sergeant, was sentenced to, three years' imprisonment. The evidence showed that the police received information that two Chinamen's huts had been burgled and £20 stolen. The polico proceeded to La Perouse and met accused, who was cycling. When stopped he produced a revolver and aimed point blank, but fortunately the chamber contained bl&aik cartridge. Tho other chambers were fully loaded.
