THE EIGHTEENTH DRAFT
' CITr MEN PARADE. The mobilisation of the 18th Reinforcements commenced yesterday, when the Wellington City quota paraded at Buckle Street Barracks for dental inspection. The City quota for recent drafts has been fixed at 172, but for this draft it was increased to 212 because of shortages somewhere else. The Group Offico called up 260 men, and 200 paraded. So that while 50' who wero called did not appear, tbo actual shortage is only 12, and the surplus over tbe population quota is 28. Tho figures summarised are:— Called up 250, Wanted ' ...'..'. 212 Paraded 200 Population quota '. 172 Tho following are the latest recruits to be enrolled in the City as fit for active Service:—' >. i ■ J. The week-end official reports of. the slate of recruiting iu the various camps in the canterbury Military District show that the district has « surplus of 107 fit infantry men for tho 18th Reinforcements to'go Into camp this week; In the Christchurch Area Group there is a surplus of 51 men, Tiiuaru has -15 over the quota required, Kaiapoi has 20, and Nelson has 8. On the other hand, Groymouth has a deficiency of 20. It is the intention of the. Defence Department to send tho surplus infantrymen into camp with the quota. In other, branches of the service; there are plenty of fit men waiting for places in iuturo ,quotas from tho district.
