SHAKESPEARE TERCENTENARY
4 The Shakespearean Costume Festival, which is being held in the Town Hall on May 3, 4, and 5 in commemoration of Shakespeare's tercentenary, promises to be a most brilliant success, and the Red Cross Fund, to which the proceeds are to be devoted, should benefit to a material extent. One of the main items on tho programme is tho great pageant of Shakespearean characters,' which is to open the programme each evening by parading through tho audience and up on to the stage. The costumes for the_ pageant have all been made from designs by Mrs. J. A. flannah, wliich is a sufficient guarantee that they will be original, yet true to the period.- In addition to the pageant three hig scenes are included on the programme: Trial scene, "Merchant of Venice"; kitchen scene, "Twelfth Night"; and tho. quarrel scene between Oberon and Titnnia, "Midsummer Night's Dream." The reet of the programme will consist of short dialogues and character sketches, all of which will bo performed in the correct costumes of the "period. Shakespearean music mil be supplied by a full orclies* tra, under Mr. Robert Parker.
