Sir, —Last everting, when coming to Wellington from Wniiganui, in the tbove ship, a large fish, • resembling .'Pelorus Jack" in every detail, was seen swimming alongside tlie ship for several minutes. It not only resembled lira in appearance, but its movements Yero the same, inasmuch as that it swam ilongside for several minutes, then went io -the bow for a few minutes, and then Jisappeared. Mr. Auclier, who was 1 a passenger nrith me, having seen "Pelorus Jack" frequently, when in the Picton. and Nelson trade, as an officer in the Union' Company, assures me that this fish so resembled him both in appearance, and action,-.that ho feels certain it is either he or another of the same species. ■ I have since heard that a fish of this species has. "bceri reported off Cape Eginoiit/ accompanied by several young i>nes. The 0110 we have seen was entirely by xt-splf. The time was C p.m., and tho ship's, position 15 miles west of. the mouth of- the Rangitikei River.
