HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

'A meeting of the Hutt Borough Oorancil was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) presiding. A deputation from the Petone Ambulance Van Control Committee waited on the council, and asked that a subsidy be granted towards the maintenance of the van. After a brief discussion it was decided to subsidise the committee to the extent of £10. The health inspector reported four cases of scarlet fover and one of diphtheria in the borough. The Mayor remarked that the cause was a mystery, as the sanitary conditions were perfect. The Mayor stated that he had been asked by the representative of a picture theatre for a permit to exhibit pictures on Christmas Day, and acting on the couuoil's policy in the past, had refused it. The pictures, however, had been exhibited, and he moved that proceedings should be taken against those persons for exhibiting pictures without a permit on Christmas Day. The motion was carried. unanimously, and the Mayor's action endorsed.
