CUBA STREET TRADE
AM) THE TRAM SERVICE. - There were between 25 and 30 Cuba and Vivian Streets shopkeepers present at a meeting held in Godber's Rooms yesterday morning to discuss th.o,tramway 6ervice as it affected them. Mr. T. P. Halpin occupiod the chair. The gravamen of the complaints made 'ly those present was that the present sorvice of cars that traversed Cuba Street and Vivian Street was inadequate, and not in proportion to tho business importance of those streets. It was stated that the only cars which traversed Cuba and Vivian Streets were those bound to and from Nowtown and Wallace Street, and the latter ones did not traverse tho other retail traffio avenues of . the City. There was at presont a ten service in the mornings and a five minutes' service in the afternoons. There was nothing ■to prevent tho five' minutes'\sorvice being maintained throughout the day. It was also mentioned that in the new. roster none of the suburban cars were to travel via Cuba and Vivian Streets, but all wont by way. of Courtenay Place. Tho opinion was expressed that tho new sorvico to Lyall Bay via Constahlo Street should, when the now lino was completed, travel by way of Cuha and Vivian Strbete. A resolution was adopted that' a strong deputation should wait upon the City Council at its next meeting, urging it to give more consideration to the business people of Cuba and Vivian Streets and the public of Wellington Central. Messrs. Wm. Allan. A. George, and J. P. Shand were appointed to act as speakers. SamQ&n Storekeepers sell -Tluonzol.
