MAN ELECTROCUTED. FATALITY AT HOKITIKA. Hokitika, January 27. Hugh M'Quillan, an engine-driver at the lloss Gold Colds mine, Ross, was killed instantaneously about 5 o'clock this morning through coming in contact with a live electric wire when turning off the. power, M'Quillan was electrocuted whilo disconnecting the telephone wire from one of the transformers. The line had 'been interrupted some time previously. It is surmised that M'Quillan, on making the disconnection, had come in contact a livo wire carrying high vol'tago, causing instantaneous death. He had been employed in the power-honse for ovor four years, and was a singularly careful, methodical man. He had had twenty years' experienoe of enginedriving and winching in the Reefton district. Ho loaves a widow and a baby boy. BURIED BY A SLIP. Hokltika, Jannarv 27. Patrick O'Brien, employed by tho con-' tractors of the Holionu water-race, was buried by a slip in the tunnel this afternoon. He was rescued after two hours' hard work and sent to the hospital at Kumara. One foot and a leg were crushed and his side was injured. O'Brien is progressing favourably. KILLED AT A RAILWAY CROSSING. Oamaru. January 27. Martin Gilmore, an elderly farmer, was killed on the railway crossing on the northern side of Clenavy this afternoon, tho express from Dunedin to Christcliurch running into a horse and cart he_ was driving. Auckland, January 27. ■ A young labourer named Barnahy Turner, who was found on Saturday last lying unconscious beside his horse at Waiuku, died in the hospital to-day. There was no change in the condition of Frank Porter, the jockey who was thrown on the hard course on Tuesday, and sustained serious brain injuries. A STRANGE ACCIDENT. While Donald M'Gillivray, linesman, of the City Electric Lighting Department was in the act of descending from the top of a telegraph pole at tbe corner of Kent Terrace aud Elizabeth Street yesterday he was seen to change colour, reel, and fall heavily to the roadway below. He bad received an electric shock while in tho act of descending from his work, while bis companion in the wire-repairing, James Bawcock, unsuccessfully endeavoured to prevent him falling. M'Gillivray was attended by a doctor, aud removed to the Hospital, whore he was found to ba suffering from shock to his system, and had received a bad. cut on. the head and a severe injury to his right thigh. M'Gillivray was reported from the Hospital last night to he doing as well as could be expected. The injured man resides at Lavinia Terrace.

HOSPITAL REPORT. Walter Wise, who was injured on board the Aparima yesterday, was reported from the Hospital last night to bo doing as well as can be expected. TWO CHILDREN INJURED. TW9 children were admitted to the Hospital yesterday suffering from injuries received through accidents. The first, Roma Lee, a girl of 6i years, residing at 20 Crawford Street, Kilbirnie, had been, knocked down by a motorcar. Beyond a few bruises and a severe shock to the little girj's system, she was unhurt. The other accident occurred to a boy of 9 years, named Frederick Bourne, who lives at Winchester Street, Kaiwarra. He was riding on a dray when he fell off, the wheel passing over one of his foet. He was removed •to the Hospital, where his foot was found to be very badly crushed.
