WAIRARAPA LAKE

ACQUIRED BY THE GOVERNMENT,

For some years past negotiations have been in progress for the acquisition of the Wairarapa Lake and its foreshores by the Government. These negotiations have now been brought to a successful issue (says our Masterton correspondent). It has been arranged that, in exchange for the lake, the Natives of the Wellington Province shall receive the Rounkuni Block, containing 30,486 acres, situated beyond To Kuiti. The interests of the Natives wore defined last week by Judge Gilfedder, and an application will shortly he made for an order to partition the block.
