MARCONI SHARES.
AND ÜBERAL PARTY FUNDS. HOUSE OP LORDS INQUIRY. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright London, March 26. Giving evidence before the Inquiry Committee of tlio Houso of Lords on the circumstances connccted with tho investment of tho Liberal party's, funds in Marconi shares,. Lord Murray of Elibanlc (ex-Liberal Whip) said that he had commenced .to make good tho amount tho Liberal party lost through his trusteeship. Ho had repaid the loss over the Marconi share?. It would probably take several years to repay the other £38,000, but tho Liberal party would get it. Ho could not defend his attitude in connection with Fenner (tho stock-broker who conducted the negotiations). But ho did liot proceed against Fenner, in tho hops of ultimately- getting some money back. His accusers havo withdrawn the allegation that Lord Murray used his influence as Chief Whip to get the Marconi contract settled without discussion in tho Houso of Commons. Fenner (who is at present in Paris awaiting extradition) was head of tho Stock Exchange firm of H. L. de Montmorency and Co., of 2 Whito Lion Court, CornMll, E.C., which failed some months ago, and whose affair's wero the subject of proceedings in bankruptcy.' He acted as broker for tho Liberal Party Whips in regard to tho investment of the party funds, and his name was frequently mentioned during the investigations of the Marconi Committee. After Mr. Fenner disappeared, serious allegations were made concerning his methods of. dealing with his clients' money and securities, and in particular it was asserted that among the matters not accounted for wero some thousands of' pounds belonging to the Liberal Party, which had been placed in his hands for investment.
