PORTER'S ACL' IX LUGGAGE ROOM. Mr. I). G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided over yesterday's sitting of tho Magistrate's Court. William Thomson pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a piec-e of leather valued at 7s. 6d., the property of the New Zealand Government. Cliief-Detective Brohcrg stated that accused, who was 23 years of ago, had cut the piece of leather from the contents of a bale, which Was in tho biggage room at 'tho Thotftdon Railway Station. Defendant was a porter, and had been in the railway service for about four years. Tho Magistrate entered a eonyiotion and ordered defendant to oom.o up for sentence when galled upon.

Frederick Brown was fined Is.and costs 75., for driving a vehicle round a corner at other thaii a walking pace. For leaving a horse and cart unattended, Horace CroUclar was. fined 5a., and costs 75.; William Smith and John Trotman, who were charged vfith like offences, wore fined similar amounts. Charles J. Duffy ivas fined sb. for riding an unregistered motor-cycle. For failing to carry a Hglit on his vehiclo at night, John Mosoley Was fined 55., and costs 7s. < . Michael M'Hugh was ordered to pay court costs 7s. for driving an unregistered motors-van. On payment of tho sum mentioned the information against him was dismissed.
A fine of , £3, and court costs (£1 Bs.), was imposed on Reginald Welshy, who . pleaded guilty to a charge Of allowing i three horses to wander. , Charles Bethel! was ordered to pay court costs 7-s. for a liko offence. For exposing for sale meat which had not been killed in a licensed abbatoir, Gadsby Bros, were fined £2, and costs £1 Bs. Arthur Batchelor was fined £1, with costs £1 Bs., for failing to comply with a drainage notice. SHOPS & OFFICES. A fino of ss. was imposed on David Sullivan, who was charged with failing to _ keep a wages and time-book, as required by the Shops and Offices Aet. :• MISCELLANEOUS CASES, Michael Nash pleaded not guilty to a charge, of being an idle and disorderly person. After hearing tho eyid,e.nco of Sergeant Kelly and Detective-Sergeant Cassells, His Worship held that tho evidence .was against accused. He would be- convicted and sentenced to ono month's imprisonment. Donald Larnach was fined £1 far assaulting Leonard Bruee Anniton. Josephine Sullivan was fined ss. for a breach of h'er prohibition order. For a like olfenco William Black was fined £1,

I{icldcli, S.il.f in th,o Magis'trato's Court yesterday, when William Gallaway, farmer, o!' Palisutanuij sued ,W. Liverton, of WclliKjtton, for £45. being tlio cost_ of damage alleged to liavo been sustained by plaintiff's motorcar. Tho statement of claim set Ottt that on December 30, 1913, tho defendant negligently and Carelessly drove a motor-car on Paekakariki llill, witk t-he result' that his car collided with plaintiff's car and did damage to the amount of £15. Mr. T. C. A. Hislop appeared for tho plaintiff, and Mr. A, Blair represented defendant. After hearing evidence His Worship adjourned tho caso until this morning for the purpose of hsatiiig legal argument. '
