« — (From Our Special CorrcaDondcnt.l Masterton, November 1. Nominations closed, to-day for the. various seats on the Masterton County Council. In . the Te Whiti Riding there was not. a single candidate offering, an experience unknown in the history of the council. Mr. James Miller was re-elected unoppoisod for the Upper Taucru Biding, and Messrs. R. F. R. Beetham and H. 0. Toogood for the Wainuioru Riding. The nomination's for the _ remaining ridings were as follow:—Opaki Riding (two members): Messrs. D. W. Fireman, W. Harris, and W. J. Welch; Rangitumau Riding (one member):. Messrs. John Blatchford »"J.' Cameron; Alfredton Ridfrig l (two members): Messrs. C. E. Cross, Cecil Kebbcll, Alex..Murray, and A. J.Patchett. Messrs. R. 'F. Beotham arid A. J. Speedy havo bfcen elected unopposed to represent the combined Counties of Masterton and Castlepoint on the Wairarapa Hospital and Cnaritablo Aid Board. Mr. D. Parton, formerly of Masterton, who was sent to Fiji by the New Zealand Government to take over the Marconi installation of wireless telegraphy, and generally to manage the telephone and telegram system of the Crown Colony, pending a permanent appointment being made from London, writing to friends here states,that ho, hopes to. be.back in New. Zealand by the end of the present year.
