A head-on collision between a mail and a stock train occurred at Picton Lakes, Sfty-nino miles from Sydney, through .tho stock train leaving the rails. Tho driver and fireman of one of the trains were seriously injured. Sis passengers were less severely hurt. The engines were badly damaged. A dozen trucks left tho rails. TRAIN OVERSHOOTS THE POINTS. Tho accident was caused by tho stock train, while shunting on to a loop-line to allow tho Melbourne-Sydney mail to pass, overshooting tho points just as the mail approached. There was great excitement among the passengers till the doors were unlocked and they were released.

Altogether nine wore injured, mostly by shock and bruises. Ono passenger was removed to the hospital, and tho others proceeded to their homes after they had received medical attention.

The traffic was blocked for many hours. Several sheep trucks were smashed, and a large number of animals killed and mangled. Three engines and other roll-ing-stock were damaged.
