, Sir,—The Primitive Methodist Conference has done,good .service-to .the community >by drawing : attention to the growing .spirit of militarism which is being promoted and fostered among, our boys and girls, and which cannot -but havo a deteriorating influence on their character... Dressing up children in. uniform and putting.them through military evolutions under the pretence - that they may merely learn- habits,-of- discipline, 'deceives., no one. The Scout ' movement was conceived in a. spirit of aggressivo militant jingoism, and the extent ( to jwhich ..this spirit/can be carried was exjoinplifiedi eleven years -ago when .we-.had the' spectacle of a.Church of England Bishop at. Trentham publicly thanking God for haying sent the Boer war. I understand that the verse in the Litany: "From battle and murder and sudden death, good Lord deliver us"' still con-tinues'-however to,, be read in: the churches^—l'am,'etc., ' .
