POLITE BUT CRUEL.
PICNIC PARTY'S- 'WOEFUL EXPERT ■-■•■■■"• ■■•;■. ENCE. • (By Correspondent! .■'.'■'''.'■ '.Auckland, January 23. A rather unpleasant experience befell a picnic. party from Waruku last week. They left in an oil launch for a day's outing down the harbour. Upon arrival at their destination'they at once went ashore,' taking with them all the good things provided.to satisfy the inner man,' • and securely planted them in a place of . apparent safety..They then took to the launch, and' proceeded to the fishing grounds.. After spending some hours, fishing with the usual luck of amateurs ■ they decided to again go ashore and satisfy their.hunger-craving-which had come over, them. TJpon' arrival' they hastily, made for their plant, but to their horror and disgust the -plant had been sprung ■ —ale, sandwiches, fruit, tarts, etc., had all gone, nothing being left' but empty, bottles and a little bread and butter, with a polite note saying the beer and sandwiches were very good, but the tarts were delicious., The opinions of the partywere freely' expressed, but the best had - to be,made of it, and as the tide had, now gone out all that could be done was to wait another six hours when they could return home and do justice to b. { good meal, vowing never again to leaver. -/ the "tucker" without someone in, charge.
