The Railway Company offers increased wages to the amount of .£30,000 annually; also a nine-hours' day, and free passes for all employees and their families. It is explained that the profits are less than they were twenty years ago, the deben-ture-holders receiving only « portion of the interest due. to themThe strikers, however, insist on their full demands. They aro now in possession of.tlio managerial and executive offices. They have appropriated the bcoks and documents, and the Government refuses to make use of the military' to enable the company to regain them. Apart from this tlie strikers continue to be orderly. (Rec. January 16, 0.50 a.m.) Lisbon, January 15. The railway strike lias terminated. The concession includes twenty days' leave .on full pay. The gas workers, also struck, but naval stokers relighted 1 the furnaces at the gasworks, and the military dispersed the strikers, who were objecting.
