HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Hutt County Council met. yesterday, Present: Councillors J. Whiteman (chairman), 11. J. Lynch, 11. W. Welch, AV. Galloway, T. Edwards, and J. Wakeham. The Inspector of Works (Mr. J.- W. Cudby) reported on the works done during the past month. Ho recommended that the man now in charge ot' the repairs on the Lowry Bay-Day's Bay Road be kept on continuously for at least six months. On the Horokiwi Road, a new culvert near Mr. Harris, senior's property was needed. The culvert by Mr. Ellison's should be lengthened, and further provision should be made to take the water away. The road called Palmer's Crescent, Trentham, could now bo accepted as complete. Dedication of Rata, Ritnu, and Matatua Streets, on the Raumati Estate, could now be accepted. He also recommended that Raumnti Road should be taken over subject to the arrangement regarding sowing with grassseed being carried out at once. The report was adopted, and the council having heard a deputation on the subject resolved to accept dedication of the roads on the Rnuinati Road mentioned above. The clerk to the Makara County Council (Mr. G. Hislop) attended as a deputation from that body to discuss the question of rent for part use of the Hutt County offices. The Makara County 'Council had offered .£2O per annum, and the Hutt County Council had asked for .£so.' After Mr. Hislop had retired, the council _ decided to adhere to the terms which it had previously named. The Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board advised that its levy, on the county for the year 1510-11 was iBfU 4s. 6d. This is a decrease of .£BB 19s. Gd. on the last annual levy. The Railway Department wrote complaining of stray stock endangering trains at Owen and Charles Streets, Melling. The council decided to instruct the ranger to attend to the matter. The Public Works Department forwarded authorities to expend moneys voted by Parliament for the following road works: —Waikanae to Upper Hutt; Pahautanui to Upper Hutt, Orongorongo, Plimmerton mi P U * SI ' U!, .> Plimmerton to Pahautanui. rhe council acceptcd a tender for tho Waikanae to Upper Hutt Roail. A. W. Newton forwarded plans of Cottle s Road and Harris Road. Tlio latter was referred to Councillor Gallotvny with power to act. The former was approved, tho necessary adjustments with those nfrected. to bo made. In regard to the adjustment of accounts .between tho 'council and the Upper Hutt Town Board, thi clerk of the latter body, in reply to a letter in which tho council had offered .£IOO by way of settlement, wrote stating that the board could npt accept tho offer, and Intended to proceed 'to an adjustment under the Town Boards Act. Councillor Welch, said there was a movement at Upper Hutt to come back into the county. Ho suggested tiiat tho matter should be allowed to stand over. It was decided, that the wholo council suould wait upon tho board at its meet--IQ?rO Dn m ®' as n deputation. v; Natusch wrote repenting Inn application for exemption of part of the Western Hutt Road from tho provisions of the Public, Works Act, ns to w'dt'. of roads. He also complained that other property owners had been allowed to imcroach on the road. The council (Councillor H elch dissenting) reaffirmed its de°'™n not, to grant the exemption. . ■O- \\ yetli was appointed ranger to impound stock on county roads. i
