Among tho winners at the "Williamstown meeting on May 2 wero Socialist (Monschikoff—Sunningdale) ami Perilous, a full-brother to the Wanganui-owned Truo Shot. For the first nine months of tho present racing season, Malster is at the head of jthe list of winning sires in tho Commonwealth. His progeny havo won 117 races, valued at i£31,251J. Then como Sir Foote,' 22 races, ,£17,016, and Grafton, 125 races, i!U,017. Owing to illness in his home, A. Oliver will not fulfil any riding engagement at Hawera, and his place will be taken by C. Jenkins and W. Ryan. Tho latter will ride Marton and Ambrosian, while Jenkins itill steor John, Strathmoira, Attention, and Contralto.

Plantation, who has been trained by H. Eva, at Now Plymouth, since.the last Awapuni fixture, will be a runner in the Railway Handicap at Egrnont to-day.

Paisano is stated to be a doubtful starter in the Tongahoo Hack Hurdles, and the stable will rely on Continuance, who .shoned suoh good form at Hastings.

Debonnaire was not taken to tho Hawera meeting, and Hi Tolford mil.now ride Lotliair in the Hurdles, while T. Pritchard will be up on Chasemab.

Tile' champion Lilliputian, Little Jack, scored another brilliant victory at Fitzroy, Melbourne, in. the 13.1' handicap, on May 2, when he fought ont a great finish with Novelette and Cheyenne, and gained a half-hoad victory, on the post.' The New Zealand Cup winner Downfall, who was purohased in Sydney by the Queensland racing man, Mr. E. G. Blume, a few weeks ago, has gone wrong, and in consequence was struck out of all his Q.T.C. (Brisbane) engagements.

In South Africa last nionth Mr. Alex. Robertson sold the New Zealand-bred sire Uniform (Hotclikiss—Fonno) .to Mr. Abo Bailey. Last season Uniform's progeny did particularly well in S.A., and his son Tancred is credited with being tho best two-year-old of the present season.

News from England records the death of the thogAighbred stallion Ayrshire. During his wseer on the turf, Ayrshire won .£36,000 <§& stakes, his victories including tho Two Thousand Guineas nud the Derby. At, the stud he was 'also a great success, and sired' numerous good winners, including Airs and Graces and Our Lassie, both of whom won the Oaks. None of his stock were imported to the Dominion but Trnquair, a halfbrother (by • Ayrshire) to Neil Gow, is now in Australia.

In connection with the Auckland Racing Club's Winter meeting, owners are reminded that acceptances' for tho Great Northern' Hurdles (three sovs.), and Great 'Northern Steeplechase (three sovs.) close' with the secretary, Mr. J. F. Hartland, at 9 p.m. on Friday next. General entries are due ut the samp time.

Owners are reminded that nominations for all ovents at tho Otalci Maori Racing Club's Winter meeting, except the Maiden Flat Race and Hack Scurry, close on Friday at 8.30 p.m. with the secretary, Mr. Hcma R. te Ao.
