THE CITY IN MOURNING.

DBAPtNG OF PUBLIC AND OTHER BUILDINGS. The draping of the Government Buildings was practically' oompleted last night. Of course, the work in this direction over and in connection with the main entrance forms the main feature of the display. The pillars of the portico are draped in black with purjilo bands, and the caps and bases are in purple. Heavily draped are the pilasters, and the main windows in the front of the buildings above the main entrance. The clock tower has also been appropriately draped. From tho main entrance plain black swathes have been carried round to the wings, where the porticos will be draped similar in maimer to the main entrance. When the weather moderates the effect of the draping of the main entranoe will be heightened by the addition of purple curtains. Similar work is also being done in connection with the Parliamentary Buildings, the new Parliamentary Buildings, the Government Life Insurance Buildings, afl'd,the Publio Trust Buildings. Those who have the opportunity of displaying "the trappings and the suit 3 of woe" have been far from backward in doing so in Wellington. Miles of black and purple cloth are being used to give a reflection 'of the general grief experienced on account of the death of the King. Immediately on landing at the wharf visitors are struck with the sombre Beauty and elaborateness displayed in the decoration of the front of the General Post Office. The ptirple and black drapings extend the full length of the, building, on a level with each side of the floors, and from the parapets. The pillars which flank the main entranco are swathed in black, whilst rich folds of artistically-draped purple cloth canopies the entrance.
