In tho course of his reply to a resold tion of the conference, asking that a parent should have the right to choose the medium of instruction, General Hertzog contended that the principle . kid j "Vlt* 110 Act was sound. He could not aomit the soundness of the contention that parents should be allowed to choose the medium. He contended that if the resolution of the conference were agreed! to, it would mean the entire duplication pt all larger schools, both with regard to bmldings and staff, a proposition which no Government, or Parliament could be asked to entertain, apart from the incalculable harm which must result to the future .citizens of the country, and to the country itself in keeping'apart Dutch and English-speaking children durin« their school years.
