Tudhopo has resigned his appointment as clerk in tho Wellington Magistrate's Court. Mr. S. Turner, representing Messrs. Wilier and Riley, leaves for Sydney en route to London to-day. Mr. F. W. Weston has been appointed a shorthand reporter under the Shorthand Reporters Act. Tho Rov. J. J.' North, who has been attending the Baptist Conference at Nelson, ii expected back this morning. The Hon. J. M'Gowan, Minister for Justice, leaves to-morrow morning for tho Thames, via New Plymouth and Auckland. Sir. It. J. Collins .(Receiver-General) has been appointed a member of tho Advances to Settlers and Advances to Workers ■ Board. Mr. C. H. Izard, M.P., has not yet rc~ covered from his indisposition, and is under medical orders not to go out in the evenings. Mr. G. H. Rolleston, Trade Commissioner in New Zealand for his Majesty's Government, has taken offices oil the second floor, Nathan's Building.' Sir. C. J. Todd, of the Tourist Department, has been transferred from -Rotorua to Wellington, and this morning leaves the Hot Lakes District for this city. Mr. B. W. White, of the Bank of New South AVales staff, and Mr. Harold W, White, accountant for Messrs. Field, Luckio and Toogood, leave for a holiday trip to Australia by tho Ulimaroa to-day. Mr. C. A. Seymour has been appointod registrar of births, deaths, and marriages at tho Hutt. Mr. John Georgeson and Eleanor Mary Heldt have been appointed deputies at Taihape and Apiti respectively. Mr. • Norman Collie, who leaves for England to-day, was presented with a handsome travelling rug on Monday _ evening last by the members of the Trinity Methodist Church choir, of which he has been organist for the past three years. Tho Premier will address Ins constituents at Winton on Monday, and will afterwards visit other parts of tho Awarua electorate, including Stewart Island. A Press Association \ telegram from Auckland states that tho death occurred ' yesterday of Captain Walter Spencer Stanhope, lato of tho 19th Hussars, son of Sir Walter Spencer Stanhope, of Cannon Hall, Barnsley, Yorkshire. Deceased, who had residod in Auckland for the last few years, was owner of tho yacht Ilex, in which ho made frequent cruises to various places on the North, Island coast. The City Engineer' (Mr. W. H. Morton) leaves on a trip to Melbourne to-day. Hall-Jones, replying to a congratulatory telegram regarding tho High Oommissionership speaks of his regret at leaving New Zealand, "even though it is only foi a time." Mr. C. Elgar,' of tho Wairarapa, who has been touring Great Britain and Europe for tho past fifteen month's, is expected back in New Zealand in April nfcxt. Tho greater portion of Mr.- Elgar's travels have been por motor-car, writes our Wairarapa correspondent, and on September 10 he had registered 18,000 miles by this method of locomotion. Last month Mr. Elgar was judging R-omney Marsh sheep at the Ashford Show in' Kent. Ho ib accompanied oil his travels by Mrs. Elgar and also by • Miss Elgar. Mr. J. Warren, permanent way inspector in the Railway Department, Greymoutli, has received orders to proceed to Waipukurau, Hawko's Bay, at an early date. Mr. Warren has been a resident of Greymouth during tho past three years, and is held ill high esteem and regard (states the " Evening Star") not only by his fellow-officers, but by all thoso. with whom he has collie in contact. He has been an able and obliging officer, considerate to a degree to those under him. Tho regret felt at his transfer, enco to Hawko's Bay is somewhat tempered by the knowledge that he gains well-do, served promotion.
