MR. ATACK'S ACTION AGAINST THE NOMINEES OF THE WELLINGTON AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.

Sir,— May I, in the, interests of the many peoplo interested, give you tho true hang of tho position?;-./ . . . For some timo past' all athletes have been annoyed at many actions of the-governing body of' New Zealand'athletics. " Tliis body has been composed. entirely of a coterio of men living ill Chtristehurcli:. a happy family, in'political .language—ring. East year they wilfully , disregarded a. rule'of the Now Zealand Association, aii'd annoyed many athletes. For' tho election this year' this' Wellington Amateur Athletic Association . nominated seven men for,, the council—all Wellington residents. Jn this, thoy'bad the suppor.t. of tho Otugo aad Southland; coatrca. Under tEo

system of voting, it meanlftthat the Wellington ticket must bo olccted on October B—and tho Christchurch lot bo defeated. For this election Sir. Aitken was nominated returning officer by tho New' Zealand Council, composed of Cfiristolmrch. moil. Tho election of the Wellington men was a certainty. Suddenly this curidus thin;; happened. • Tho returning officer, himself a candidate —0110 of tho Atack party thai was sure to bo beaten —got a letter from the president, Mr. Atack, to this. effect: — "No one. outsido Christchurch is .eligible." The '• returning officer then declared tho Christchurch seven to bt> duly elected—he himself being 0110 of the seven. As a member of the Wellington Council said: " It^ was as if Sir Joseph Ward declared Mr. Hislop roturning officer for Wellington Central, and' then told 'him to disqualify Mr. Fisher because, he did not live in Kolburnc, and declared himself elected." Can you wonder that tho Wellington Centro is unanimously resolved to' fight' this outrage to tho bitter end P Mr. Atack, the president, admits lie has no rule to back him, but ho thinks it advisable.—l am, etc., • WELLINGTON. October 17.
