CHARGE OF FALSE PRETENCES.

Archibald John M'Noill, who was arrested under arms at Woodend yesterday, was remanded this: morning to appear at Wellington 011 a charge of falso pretences, and he left'by tlio: second' express to-day under tlio escort of,two constables. M'Neill wa3 tho first, man confined 111 the habitual criminal wing of tlio New 'Plymouth gaol, whero 110 spoilt eight lonely mouths, and pleaded that the solitude was preying on his mind. As reported early last month, bo was allowed out on probation on condition that ho reported to the police once a month. Tlio facts of his disappearance were reported in a Press Association message from i\'ew Plymouth 'oil September 7. Since then 110 is alleged to have been guilty of false pretences at Christchurch, where he is alleged to have wrongly obtained money from Mrs. Edmonds. It is stated that when hiding in the scrub round about the. Bluff he used to lie concealed with bis revolver in 0110 hand, a..stout club tied to his other wrist, and; it is said that while so hidden bo more than once saw his pursuers passing close by. Once before, while going a train journey in custody, M'.Ncill managed to "lay out" his escort, and escaped temporarily, and he-now boasts that he will get away yet. His behaviour in Court this morning was suggestive of playing to tho gallery.
