As chairman of the Harbour-Board, ho could say that if tho report to 'be : furnished by tho engineer was one'that allowed the reclamation from tho Jlorokoro stream to tho mouth of tho Hutt • River to be carried out at a reasonable cost, ho felt certain that iho whole of the of the board would be able to give due consideration to the proposal. He was certain of this. Thoy were-business men; and would act as such. Mr. TVilford then said that ho wUhed to remove an erroneous impression. Tho board was not pledged, to reclaim one acre at Evans Bay; tho public did not seem to bo aware of this. Tho arrangoment betwoon tho Miramar Borough Council and the board required tho latter to spend £15,000 upon the erection of an up-to-dato wharf at Evans Bay, also to take down a certain amount of tho hill abutting Miramar Quay, with the idea of making an esplanade. It- followed that a pioco of the hill would probably, be put into the harbour, but the board was not committed at tho present timo to ono aero there. Ho wanted to make the position clear, as ho had been misrepresented in the press and in public. Tho board.was empowered, if any part of tho Evans Bay district desired reclamation, to enter into a contract upon a business basis, with a contribution by that part as had boon obtained by Miramar. Tho evidence disclosed that tho defendant was induced to sign an application for enrolment by a relativo of a member of tho Hutt Licensed Victuallers' Association, which association recently charged tli'o Hutt No-License Leaguo with roll stuffing. Tho principal featuro of this caso was that two witnesses swore that, on the defondant informing the canvasser that a mistake had been made iu his application for enrolmont, tho answer was 'voto and say nothing about it.' Tho case was dismissed without costs." Tho 'CCretary was instructed to send copies of tho above resolution to tho Premier and the Minister for Justice.
