TUBERCULOSIS.
ALLEGED INFECTION THROUGH SKTM MILK. (BY TELEGBAPtI— I'll ESS ASSOCIATION.) Chrlstchurch, October 17. At the annnal meeting of the Canterbury Contral Dairy Company to-day, Mr. John Rennio called attention' to the spread of tubnrculosis among cattlo and j)igs in New Zealand, and oxpressed tho opinion _ that an important factor was the infection of skim milk returned from _ the creameries. Ono .or two cows, lie said, could infect the whole supply) and he had himself noticed the spread of disease among pigs fed on the skim milk. "Men are cheap and pigs are dear," ho remarked in reply to a question about tho position .of the ordinary consumer in tho mattor.
Mr. "Rennie moved that tho direotors should consider tho advisablcness of pasteurising the skim milk, and his motion was carried. The shareholders did not scorn to regard tho matter as one of great importance, for a number left the meeting during a brief debato on tho motion.'
