The London "St. James' Gazette" remarks that the annual meeting of the New Zealand and lliver Plato Laud Jlortgago Company is "a reminder of the short-sighted policy of New Zealand politicians towards those desirous of employing capital in the Dominion. This company was originally formed in ISB3 under tho title of tho New Zealand Land .Mortgage Company, but in ISSB the <!]> pressivo laws of tliat country caused its board to turn their eyes to Argentina as. a better channel for investinent. Accordingly, tho title was changed to that held ;<t present, and gradually the whole oi t.he money employed by the company was transferred to Argentina, and the words NVw Zealand might well be dropped out ni ■ its title. Tho change in venue had an excellent effect upon its fortunes, for dividends have steadily risen until 7 per cent, was paid for last year. An example like this should liavo its effect upon the legislators of tho new Dominion, but we believe they are still pursuing their relentless'opposition to capital, and other companies aro likely to follow: tho course-of tho ono mentioned/'
