ENTERTAINMENTS.

; "THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL." 1 "Tho Scarlet Pimpernel," now being 1 played at the Opera House by tho William- ' son Dramatic Company, 'is apparently just ■ the thing the public wanted. The Opera House was packed again last evening, and, though tho audience did not pick, up tho points as smartly as on the first night, signs of appreciation wore not lacking. Mr. • Julius Knight, as Sir Richard Blakeney, and : Miss Ola ' Humphrey, as Lady did full justice to those important roles, and Messrs. Leslie Victor, Harry Plimmer, , and Misses Harvey and Stirling wero also nicely in tho picture. There are some effective scenic sots in the drama that call'for mention. The Thames-side scene in the third act is especially well contrived and artistically painted, a fine sweep of the classic river being caught in a placid mood, with picturesque red-roofed houses- slowing out amongst the autumn-browned trees. The inn at Dover and the "Lion D'Or" at Calais were also very effective interiors. Tho orchestra, under Mr. Diederichseu, playod several delightful selections. ' THEATRE ROYAL. There was a largo attendance of those desirous of witnessing a bright and t ~vied entertainment at tho Theatre Royal last evening, when Fuller's Vaudeville Company repeated the previous night's programme. Eadarrio, in his Japanese Risley act, again evoked applause, and Denis Carney, the harmonious Huxhams, the marvellous B,mvards, and the Marlowe Sisters wero ?iso well received. Tho biograph-. also added to tho interest of the performance. ORGAN RECITAL. The attendance- at tho Town Hall last evening was not as large as Mr. Maughaii Barnott's organ recitals have been drawing during the past few weeks. The appreciation, however, was not in any' degree less. The best of composers were drawn uoon for tho evening's programme. The'opening piece was the overture to Handel's opera, "Xerxes," and following it came six variations in G by Beethoven. Schubert was represented by. his beautiful • "Ave Maria," and Mendelssohn by the No. 5 Sonata, of which the organist' gave a very fine rendering. A pretty and popular little contribution was Bendel's "Dornroschen," consjsting light air and variations. Effective use was made of the piccolo, and the succeeding passage developed a tasteful combination of this sweet stop and the vox huinana. The selection was loudly encored, and was repeated. One of Brahm's bestknown Hungarian dances was heartily applauded. But the audience, : no .doutit with pleasant recollections of Lemare,' and' with a desire to hear again the delicate beautifs of the particular composition, asked for, and obtained, a repetition of. his pastorale in E. The concluding item was a march in EFlat by Wely, a bright and rousing composition. The recital next Tuesday will comprise "special request" items.- Among these.will bo Bach's prelude and fugue in D, which on a recent occasion was encored, the overtake to Tannhauser, and Infiammatus from "Stabat Mater." OLYMPIA SKATING. RINK. Roller skating at the Olympia Skating Junk continues to attract largo attendances. To-night a hockey match will .be played fr'«m 8.4-5 to 9.15. To-morrow night an 8-lap skate ,raco will .be run, and on Juno 5 there will be a ladies', night, for' which' special music will be provided, and tlio management will "supply programmes. At Fullford's Hall, Brooklyn, to-night, tlie Viviennes, supported by a vaudeville company,- will givo an entertainment^ Miss Beatrice Richmond and Mr.' Robert Parker will give tho thirds-chamber concert of their series in Sydney Street Hall to-night. The subject is an attractive one—"Mendelssohn "—and a very fine selection of vocal and instrumental illustrations will be given. Tho composer's beautiful string quartet in E Flat- will be played by Horr Hoppe, Mr. and Mrs. .H. ~Tombs, ,and Mr. L. Cohen; Miss Richmond-will play a fine selection ; of ■ songs without words, and Mrs. F. P. Wilson will sing several attractive songs, tho whole . forming a programme of exceptional interest.
