Brown, wharf labourer, who, it is suspected, was poisoned, and whom the woman Jane Baikio is charged with murdering. Brown's stepdaughter deposed that Brown, five weeks before his death, had visited her. Ho said he was suffering from influenza, and was going to stay with the Baikies, friends whom lie had heen in tho habit of visiting for a long time. When next she saw Brown ho was in tho hospital. That was the day before his death. His limbs appeared to be paralysed. He told witness his jewellery was safe with tho Baikies, where witness afterwards saw bonds and other property.
