Clutha Gold Dredging Ltd.’s return for the week ending 13th August was 153 02s for 104 hours work. As slated some time ago there is every possibility of the Bendigo Goldlight Company's dredge at Bendigo again being put into operation in the near future. This now appears to ho fairly definite and it is stated that it is expected that the machine will’resume work about the end of the month.
With the prolonged spell of fine, dry weather, with occasional frosts at night, the Kawarau and Clutha rivers continue to show a very low level. The Kawarau, at the town, is some six to seven feet* below normal and still shows a falling tendency. I hat progressive company, the Silver-stream Dairy Co., Mosgiel, has an announcement of special interest to dairy .farmers. The company operates one of the finest, up-to-date factories, with every modern facility for handling dairy farmers produce and their notice with respect to the butter fat bonus will be ol importance fo the dairying community.
The National Mortgage and Agency Co. held a very successful auction sale of surplus stock, implements, etc., on behalf of Air F. H. Codings, Pembroke, on Wednesday last. Draught horses were in keen demand and good utility sorts brought in the vicinity °f top price being .£42 for a 5-year-old gelding. Cows also were in good demand and the top price was realised for two fat cows which brougiio £>7 ~s 6d each. Implements, generally, realised a fair figure, tow topdressers bringing £22 and £2l ior. respectively.
An accident occurred on Hie Crom-well-Queenstown road on Saturday afternoon when a five-seater sedan car driven by Mr E. Green, Lindis Pass’, and proceeding from Arrowtown to Cromwell, came into violent contact with the Gentle Annie bridge. There were four passengers in the car, including the driver, and one of these, Mr D. McEwau, was severely cut about the head by flying glass and was admitted to Cromwell Hospital on Saturday evening. He is progressing favourably and no serious results are anticipated. The other passengers escaped with minor cuts whilst the car vas extensively damaged. It is understood that the cause of the accident was a blow out in one of the tyres.
