TOO DIFFICULT.
Harry Hale had done no work for twelve months, and his father was getting tired of keeping him. "Harry," said his father one day, "I hear there's been a death at Johnson's factory. Why don't you go and see if you can fill the vacancy?" Harry went. On his retnm he explained that he could have had the job, but the work was too hard for him to do.
"But," protested his father angrily, "you're a strong, fit man. If the man who died could do it, surely yon could."
"It wasn't a man that died," replied the energetic Harry. "It was a horse."
PARTING OF THE WATS.
A business man who had been pre* vailed upon to accompany a friend on a bear hunt had concealed his nervous* ness manfully, although his, first night in camp in the mountain fastnesses was. a sleepless one. Starting forth in the morning, the two had walked but a short distance when they came upon fresh tracks which the enthusiastic sportsman identified as being those of a large bear. "Tell you what, we had better do," said the business man, brightly. "Yon go ahead and see where he went, and I'll go back and see where he came from!" The owner of a large business was Interviewing applicants for the post of office boy. He had a boy in his office and was putting to him all manner of severe questions. \ "Now," went on the employer. To looking for someone who must be exceptionally sharp, and who must cost me very little!" , "Well," said the boy, "I reckon you'd better send out for a lemon!" ' "I'm engaged," said the taxi-driver. "I hope you'll be very happy," said the sweet little innocent.:
