Mining
The season's mining operations at the Nevis are at an end and the crews of the various concerns have left the field for the "winter. The Upper Nevis dredge has been benched after an uneventful run, M l ' F. Jones, of Jones and party, came oyer last week with the final' wash-up for the , season. Operations were carried out in the bed of Whitton's Creek, and the resui's for the season were of a highly satisfactory natuAe,. The management had a good run during the year the water supply for the period being above the average. There is every indic.vtion of another successful run next season, when the plant will operate further down and towards the| very rich paddock worked some years ago by Q'Cpnnell and party. Rich ground has been prr|vecl in that (direction, where there is also the advantage that, the ground is, if anything, shallower. The screen and elevator on the Golden Terrace dredge on the Shotover were recently discarded in favor of boxes. Since this was done returns have shown a big improvement, 4 .he figures for two weeks being 45112*. and 650 ZS. Prospects, too, are reported to be improving. The work of pumping out the Cornish Point mine was completed last week. The face will be reached early In the week, as one or two small runs had to be removed, and the drainage channels cleaned out. Otherwise the mine is in good order, and the pumps handling the water without any difficulty,
