YAWNING WITH FEET.
Unique Method of Relaxing
Yawning, as a method of relaxing when fatigued, is recognised by the average human being as a stretching of the jaws. To the screen chorus girl it means a stretching of leg and body muscles.
The score of chorus girls and specialty dancers engaged in Paramount's picturisation of the musical comedy, "Heads Up," proved the practicability of this unique method of relaxing.
After several hours of rehearsals and re-takes, Director Victor Schertzinger discovered a number of the girla indulging in difficult acrobatic kicks, backbonds and other intricate steps. Realising that the girls must be tired, Schertzinger asked why they were engaging in this activity instead of resting. The chorines explained that they were "yawning" with their feet. The muscular exertions which they were t forcing themselves to go through served exactly the same pur pose that the facial yawn does for the rest of the population. It refreshed them and kept them awake.
