Cromwell School Reunion
Twenty-five ex-pupils, representative of the town and district, attended another meeting- on Tuesday evening, in connection with the above. Mr L. M. Jolly occupied the chair. A letter was read from the Otago Education Board, stating- that no records before 1878 were available in that office, and that those of the period from 1878 to 1880 had been forwarded. The preliminary circular letter to all ex-pupils, as drawn up by the committee appointed, was read and adopted. Mr F. Sherwood gave the meeting; a further considerable volume of records and matter in connection with similar functions in other parts, particularly at Gore. The officials at Gore had also offered to give any information in their possession. Mr Sherwood further explained the nature of the preliminaries to be undertaken. The meeting then proceeded to elect office-bearers as follows;—President, Mr L. M. Jolly. Secretaries, Messrs C. Smart and A. Stephens. Treasurer, Mr Er. Jolly. Executive Committee, Messrs M. de Bettencor, D. A. Cahill, Geo. Wishart, G. Stumbles, G. M. Luke, H. Towan, \\. Gair, F. Sherwood, Jno. Stephens, R. Thomas, M. Ritchie. J. Ilosking. T. Fleming, Mrs Gair, Miss Ewart. Miss Bowie, Miss Youngs Miss Stumbles, and officers, with power to add. Recommendations adopted were that those who knew the addresses of pupils should hand these to the secretaries*, and also that advertisements be inserted in the daily papers. It - was decided to have circulars printed as early as possible and sent to ex-pupils. The function was fixed for the month of January. 1030. definite date to be decided later. The enrolment fee was fixed at 2s 6d. Copies of the rolls from 1880. prepared by the Rector and the pupils, were then, presented, and casually checked, quite a number who have been absent from the town for many years being' located. A committee consisting of officebearers and Messrs G. Stumbles, D. A. Cahill, Er. Jolly, and G. M. Luke, was appointed to peruse the rolls and report to the Executive Committee. The question of dividing the school into decade* was held over to a future meeting. The meeting closed with the usual vote to the chair.
