Hawea School.

ANNUAL CONCERT AND BALL. (From our own Correspondent). The Hawea School Annual Concert and Bali, in aid of the school funds, was heid in the hall, Hawea Flat, on the evening- of the 12th iust. There was a large gathering of people from all parts of the district, and the function was one of £he most successful ever held in connection with the school. The concert was principally a juvenile one, contributed by the pupils of the school, who, it was apparent, had been ably coached by their teachers, Mrs McGregor and Miss Ross. Indeed a good deal of praise is due to them for the bill of fare which they succeeded in presenting to what was an appreciative audience, every item being well received. Recalls were not acceded to as it would have unduly prolonged the concert. Following are the details ol the concert: •Song', N.Z. National Anthem, Senior pupils; welcome speech. Master E. Connolly; recitations. Primer girls; action song, •Ten Little Nigger Boys,'' Middle Division; dialogue, '-'The Labourers," Masters W. Kane, C. Cray, R. Allen, C. Rowley and VV. Robertson ; song, "The Sundowner." Master G. Williams; recitation, "Dr. Quack," Master A. Urquhart; play, "Nursery lea Party." lower division. Coster Character Sketch, D. McGregor; dialogue. "Concentration," Masters W. Rowley, E. Connolly, and D. McGregor; song-, "Bright and Cheery," senior pupils; song without words, Misses M. Watkins, B. Loach, G. Pringle and Master C. Bell; song,

McGregor, and I. Loach; song. Mr O'Shea ; song. ••British Grenadiers/' senior pupils; farewell speech, Miss J. Watkins; National Anthem, senior pupils. Refreshments in profusion were provided by the ladies at the supper which followed, to which full justice was done. Dancing was indulged in to the early hours of the morning, to the music of Miss Louie (piano), Mr A Allison acting as an efficient M.C. The School Committee desires to thank all those who had given their services freely, and whose efforts contributed so -much towards the success of the . concert. particularly the teachers who had devoted so much of their time in coaching the children, the ladies who had so abundantly provided the supper, uie musician who provided the music for the dance, and the gentlemen who assisted with the concert.
