[FKOM OUR OWN COKRKSPONDKNT ] We have experienced a weeks frost, harder than we have had all winter, the days have been warm and sunny. Late sown crops have a chance of being lifted with the frost, but most of the crops at Mf. Barker are well advanced The news of the sudden death of Mrs D. Mathtson came as a shock to the community. She had been about her work ail day Saturday as usual. On Saturday evening she became ill, arrd passed away on Sunday afternoon. Deceased was a member of the wellknown Ironsides' family, being the youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J Ironside. She was a woman of sterling character, kii dly and hospitable and was liked and respected by all who knew her. The loss of so useful a life will be severely felt. A husband, atrd four little children, the youngest seventeen months old, are left to mourn their loss To these the heartfelt sympathy of the district is extended. The funeral which took p'ace on Tuesday, was one of the largest that has been here. The service was conducted by the Rev. J. Riley. Mr J. Aspinall, of Matukituki, had the misfortune to be burnt out the other day, losing his house arrd all his ellcc's. The remarks in the last issue of the Civ mwell AiiGUS re the excellence of the present Cromwell to ILiwea arrd Wanaka mail service will find ready acceptance at Wanaka. Mr Anderson, the present contractor, has during his term given complete satisfaction. The mail has been delivered to time despite adverse weather conditions Residents here wiil be pleased to see our popular mail contractor get another term.
