ENGINEER'S GENERAL UK PORT. Hawka Riimm;. All roads within this ridiug are in i:ood order. The roadman has liccn oniployed spreading gravel on Kerin's Road but will now be able to repair some of the worst places on his roads before winter. The cutting at the Hawea Bridge requires blinding and some patch gravelling is necessary on the Hawea Flat to Tarras road. Doth these works can be done, by tho roadman. The road from the Lindis Hotel to Lindis Saddle has been graded and after some gravelling is done it should be suitable for motor traffic. There is a sufficient Government vote to do necessary gravelling. I have laid off the work to be done to the track at Pleasant Valley. Plans are being prepared for tho new jetty at the head of Like Hawoa. A good deal of work had to be done on tho road to Mt. l.iurk homestead to repair it after the heavy rains in October. Several pipe culverts have been put in which will prevent a reourreuoo of the damage. Clutha Run no.

The approaches to the now bridge over the Cardrona river at Albert Town have been completed and the structure is now much used. The .gravelling contract at Mt Pisa is proceeding satisfactorily and this work will cover tho worst places in the road. As instructed at last meeting 1 went to Wellington to confer with the Public Works Department regarding I lie plans for the Uridgo. After making a few sinal! alterations the plans were passed and approved so 1 called tenders for the work at once. I would suggest that a small committee be appointed to dial with these tenders which close on February liOlb. it will also be necessary to erect a small room at the bridge site for the use of the Engineer and Inspector while the work is in progress. The building would bo useful as a roadman's hut after the work is completed. The road from Cromwell to the Meg is in good order. As the Mines Department has authorised the expenditure of £SO for repairs to the Meg Track I have made arrangements for carrying out the work, Iji:s t dis Ridino, Beyond tho usual maintenance work on'themain road throughout this riding no work has been done dining tho last two mouthy. There is a vote of £15,0 (t for jfc) which can be expended in gravelling between Cromwell apd Jjlocky Point. 1 will Jay piT thiL> work and forward the plaup for approval at the in at uppoitmiity.
